NI Parasol: A Pioneering Design Enhancing Street Environments

An Innovative Combination of Parasol and Garden Torch

NI Parasol, designed by Mr. Terry Chow and the Excellent-Group team, is a groundbreaking design that seamlessly integrates a classic parasol with a versatile lighting system. This innovative combination is set to play a pioneering role in enhancing the quality of street environments from morning to night.

NI Parasol, also known as the LED Parasol, is a brand new design that embodies the adaptability of modern furniture. Its unique properties and strengths lie in its ability to provide both shade and illumination, making it a functional and aesthetic addition to any outdoor space.

The proprietary finger-sensing OTC (one-touch dimmer) allows users to adjust the brightness of the 3-channel lighting system with ease. This feature ensures that the lighting can be tailored to suit the environment and create the desired ambiance. The low-voltage 12V LED driver provides an energy-efficient power supply for the system, which consists of over 2000 pieces of 0.1W LEDs. Despite its impressive lighting capabilities, the NI Parasol generates very little heat, making it safe and comfortable to use.

The NI Parasol is made using a strong aluminum frame with outdoor powder coating, ensuring durability and resistance to the elements. The shade is crafted from Sunbrella fabric, known for its quality and longevity. The design also incorporates an IP connector for each light, allowing for easy replacement of the LEDs. With a total power consumption equivalent to that of three 60W incandescent light bulbs, the NI Parasol provides a bright and well-lit area while being environmentally friendly.

Interaction is key with the NI Parasol. The one-touch dimmer enables users to adjust the lighting according to their preferences, while the finger motion sensors ensure a seamless and intuitive experience. To cater to high-class environments such as hotels and museums, a remote control is available for administrators to centrally control multiple parasols simultaneously.

The NI Parasol project began in February 2013 in Hong Kong, China, with the initial idea conceived in December 2012. The first prototype was completed in January 2014 and was later exhibited at the International Furniture Fair Singapore in March 2014.

The design team faced several challenges during the development process, including cabling and waterproofing. To overcome these challenges, custom molds were created with waterproof gaskets to ensure the protection of the internal components. The all-in-one cabling system, which allows for quick setup and movement, was also a technical feat achieved by the team.

The NI Parasol has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category in 2014. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The NI Parasol's technical characteristics and remarkable level of excellence have earned it this well-deserved accolade.

With its unique combination of functionality and aesthetics, the NI Parasol is set to revolutionize outdoor lighting and enhance street environments around the world. Its adaptability, energy efficiency, and intuitive design make it a standout addition to any outdoor space.
